New and advanced antenna technology makes satellite communication more secure – and opens up opportunities for authorities and operators in critical infrastructure to communicate without being intercepted.
– Our technology can be decisive in ensuring the sovereignty of countries, says Omid Sotoudeh, CEO of Swedish Requtech.
Communication via satellite instead of using terrestrial networks has undergone rapid development in recent years. It has opened up opportunities to send voice, image and other data from remote locations with great flexibility, at a lower price – and with significantly greater security.
A challenge with previous technology has been that the transmitter unit’s antenna had to be physically aimed at a geostationary – i.e. fixedly positioned – satellite in space. The modern satellites, on the other hand, move across the sky quickly in so-called LEO or MEO orbits. To follow these satellites with traditional reflectors, heavy motorization solutions are required. This results in heavier ground terminals that are difficult to move when needed.
Solutions from Requtech create opportunities
Requtech has developed technology for so-called phase-controlled antennas that instead direct the signal electrically. The technology is also adaptive, which means that it does not need to be aimed at a specific satellite, but the system can connect to different satellites, both mobile and geostationary, which are also found in different constellations. Likewise, they have developed the technology for different frequency bands.
The signal will therefore not be able to be tracked and intercepted, and when combined with the encryption, it will also not be able to be interpreted.
– Communication is absolutely crucial for building security. It is something that can be achieved with our technology, says Omid Sotoudeh.
Great flexibility with technology from Requtech
The solution from Requtech is modular. This means that it can be built to adapt to the purpose, i.e. if it is to be portable, sit on a vehicle or perhaps a ship.
– Our technology can create optimal performance given parameters such as weight, size and power consumption. This makes the system very flexible. The fact that it can also be done very discreetly is also part of the security capability, he explains.
It can be easily integrated with the customer’s existing technology, such as encryption solutions.
Among the typical customers are armed forces, authorities and blue light operations around the world. Already today, Requtech has customers in 35 countries.
– We understand the importance of the increased security needs that our customers have to be able to anticipate and prevent attempts at wiretapping, misdirection and sabotage. That can be achieved with our solutions, concludes Omid Sotoudeh.
